(Source: Kompasiana)

Time/Date: 30 August 2022, 10.00 am -12.00 pm

Venue: Ayana Midplaza Jakarta

Indonesia is looking for new sources of economic growth to recover from Covid, escape the middle-income trap and become a wealthy country.

Attracting investment from knowledge-based industries is key to these ambitions, which in turn relies on a robust and well-functioning system for the protection of intellectual property rights, especially patents.

However, international investor perceptions of Indonesia were weakened by the 2016 Patent Act. The Omnibus Job Creation bill has gone some way to addressing these concerns discussion continues within the government around further reform of the Patent Act.

This presents an opportunity for Indonesia to upgrade its patent system to make it regionally and globally competitive.

Please join Paramadina Public Policy Institute and Geneva Network for a discussion of the role intellectual property rights will play in Indonesia’s development, what the government can do to make the IP system internationally competitive, and perspectives from overseas.
