Abstract

Indonesia is ranked 78th out of 129 countries in the 2019 Global Innovation Index. Indonesia’s ranking was recently discussed in a public discussion on the topic “Strategic Role of Intellectual Property (IPR) in Promoting Creative Economy,” conducted by Paramadina Public Policy Institute (PPPI) in collaboration with the Geneva Network, Monday, September 30, 2019, at Paramadina University, Jakarta.

Geneva Network Director Philip Stevens saw that Indonesia’s ranking is unfortunately even below other ASEAN countries such as Thailand (ranked 43), Philippines (ranked 42), Malaysia (ranked 39), Vietnam (ranked 37), and Singapore (ranked 15). Indonesia is only above Cambodia (rank 84) and Brunei Darussalam (rank 120).

The report released by PPPI and Geneva Network refers to the ranking made by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The ranking is based on 80 indicators including innovation, the political situation, education, infrastructure, business efficiency, creative output, and the output of knowledge and technology.
